Immediate Relief!  Is this a Reality or a Fantasy?

I know, from experience, there are several things you can do RIGHT NOW to decrease or take the edge off of your pain. Really, there are things you can do RIGHT NOW to get pain relief from your chronic pain.

  • Go ahead, I dare you. Take a minute or so for yourself, RIGHT NOW, you definitely deserve it!
  • Remember you are the most important person in the world & if you don't take the time to take care of yourself then it is difficult to be in good mental or physical shape to take care of your immediatley family.

3 in 1: Here are 3 things you can do anywhere, anytime to decrease your pain in 1 minute, that is why I call it the "3 in 1".)

  1. Posture:
Stand up (imagine a string is gently being pulled straight up from the middle of your head).
(I know you can do it!)  Just by standing straight you will notice your back hurting less.
-The next thing I would like you to try is, first put your hands on your hips, now arch backwards. Click here for resources for exercises to decrease your chronic pain & increase your flexibility.

  2. Breathing:
Close your eyes and take a very deep breath. The kind of breath that comes from your stomach.
Take at least 3 very, very slow deep breaths.  Do you feel at least a little of your pain melting away?
Relax anytime, any place with the 7-11 Breathing Exercise

  3. Go to Your Calm Place:
This is something that I learned prior to having my son.
-The idea here is that you are sitting or lying down in a very quiet place where you can close your eyes.

-You can actually do this sitting at your desk or in your car (if you are parked somewhere).
    • Sit or lie down.
    • Close your eyes
    • Take a very deep breath from deep down inside your stomach.
    • Now, think about your very favorite place that makes you feel relaxed (my calm place is a beautiful beach on Maui, Hawaii).
    • Using my example of the beach I tell myself:
          a. I can feel the warmth of the sun on my skin.
          b. I can feel the wind brushing through my hair.
          c. I can hear the waves breaking against the shore.

After doing this for even 3 minutes not only has my pain level gone down a little bit, I feel much more relaxed & happier, as I have just gone on a mini-vacation.  By doing this I am also distracted from my pain.  Distracting yourself from your pain is an incredibly powerful tool! A link here to go to a page that shows products for aromatherapy and sounds that help you relate to your calm place.

If you can't do this by yourself or what to get even more relaxed you may want to try hypnosis. For now, look at the links below to get more information about different relaxation hypnosis:
